RECRUITMENT

POWER FIVE OFFERS: Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Cal, Duke, Indiana, Iowa State, TCU, Virginia, Washington State, Michigan, Nebraska, Utah

Recruitment: Patterson committed to Arizona State on Aug.5, but backed off that pledge on Dec. 7 with Michigan and UCLA entering the mix soon after.

When Note Dame came into the picture on Jan.9, Patterson expressed immediate interest in the Irish and was on campus for an official visit 10 days later. Notre Dame replaced Michigan in the race against UCLA soon after, and the Irish were able to pull the win over the Bruins on National Signing Day .

2018 PROJECTION

Notre Dame is loaded at offensive tackle, which will make it very hard for Patterson and the rest of the incoming linemen to see action early on. Patterson would benefit from a redshirt, which would give him a chance to fill out his frame and get stronger.

BGI ANALYSIS

“Patterson is a long and lean blocker that has the frame to really fill out at the next level. Listed at 6-5 and 275 pounds, Patterson will quickly get to 300 pounds at the next level if he’s willing to work. Combined with his long arms it makes him an ideal body type for offensive tackle at the next level. Patterson is a gifted pass blocker that has the physical tools and instincts to handle the edge in college.

The Mission Viejo standout is quick off the ball, stays light on his feet and shows good change of direction skills. He makes quick reads in the pass game, he shows impressive lateral quickness and he responds well to double moves on the film I’ve seen. Patterson’s length makes him highly effective when he uses his hands correctly. He has a nice punch and can lock defenders out, but improved strength and using his hands more consistent will help, especially in the run game.

Patterson fires off the ball in the run and pass game, although he has to work on playing with better pad level in the run game. He does a good job driving his feet through contact and he finishes well on highlights. If he can sink his butt and bend more at the knees off the snap he’ll be even more effective as a run blocker. He does a good job staying locked onto defenders in the run game, which is arguably his best trait with that part of his game at this point.” – BGI Football Analyst Bryan Driskell
