No.15 2018 OLB Chris Oats Has High Interest in Notre Dame

Chris Oats, the No.15 outside linebacker in the class of 2018 has an early leader in Ohio State, but there’s a long way to go in his recruitment.

Oats, a three-star Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods product hold offers from Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan State and several others. He does not yet have an offer from Notre Dame, but did get to take his first look at the Irish this weekend.

Oats was in South Bend for Notre Dame 38-35 loss to Duke, and said the visit was something he’s been wanting to do for a long time.

“It was a big opportunity,” Oats said. “I’ve always wanted to visit there, and I finally did. It was nice to visit there for the first time and I really enjoyed myself.”

“The environment and energy” were two things Oats said stuck out to him during the visit.

Oats said that he hears from the Notre Dame coaching staff regularly, and he expects to hear more from them as his recruitment process continues.

“I hear from them every now and then,” Oats said. “They’ve said that our relationship is going to get closer in the coming year.”

Though Ohio State is his leader at the moment, Oats said he has “very high interest in Notre Dame” and is hoping to land an offer from the Irish eventually.

“It would mean a lot just because the name of the school,” Oats said. “I really like the school too so, it would mean a lot.”

“{I really like} their tradition and how hard they play and how hard they practice and things like that,” Oats said. “And their academics. Academics are really important to me.”
