Irish WR Target Lawrence Keys Continues To Weigh Options

Notre Dame would like to add at least one more wide receiver to the class of 2018, and one of the top targets left on the board is New Orleans McDonogh 35 three-star prospect Lawrence Keys.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Keys has been on Notre Dame’s radar for a long time, and the Irish are making him a priority as they look to close out the 2018 class.

On Thursday, Keys will host Irish wide receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander for an in-home visit. The Louisiana product said he’s honored Alexander is making the trip to see him.

“It means a lot,” Keys said. “All the years I’ve played, I’ve never really seen Notre Dame recruit anyone down here. It’s a blessing and I really appreciate it.”

Throughout the recruiting process, Keys has built a strong relationship with Alexander, and that’s working positively in Notre Dame’s favor.

Keys said it’s easy to tell how much Alexander and the rest of the coaching staff want him in the class.

“He’s been on me ever since he started recruiting me,” Keys said. “He’s shown me how bad he wants me to be a part of their program up there in Indiana.”

As it stands, Keys has a top four of Notre Dame, Houston, LSU and Auburn. Only one official visit is planned currently, a trip to Houston on Dec. 8, the same weekend as Notre Dame’s Echoes Banquet, which typically sees several recruits head to town for official visits.

However, Keys maintains that he will eventually take an official to Notre Dame, just not for the Echoes. He was originally scheduled to make the trip for the Navy game, but had to call it off because of conflicting schedules with his team’s playoff run.

Still, Notre Dame is right in the thick of this recruitment.

Keys knows exactly what Notre Dame has to offer, and is eager to get a closer look.

“I watch them a lot on TV, and the atmosphere looks great,” Keys said. “A lot of people down here tell me that Notre Dame is a real great school academic wise and football wise, and that would be one of the best places for me to go.”

With multiple visits left to plan, a decision isn’t expected any time soon for Keys. The Louisiana talent plans to let things play out all the way to signing day before finally picking his school.

But he knows exactly what he’s looking for.

“Just which place is best for me,” Keys said. “I want to come on these official visits and have talks with all the coaches.”
