Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward Prep wide receiver Kevin Austin will officially be Irish this week, and the four-star is thrilled for the opportunities ahead of him.

“It’s very exciting,” Austin said of taking the next step toward college. “I’m getting more information from Notre Dame and getting more involved in the process of being there, so it’s becoming more and more exciting day-by-day.”

During his final prep season, Austin caught 35 passes for 761 yards and 11 touchdowns, and rushed for 390 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries.

Combine that with his junior stats that included 41 catches for 1,021 yards and 13 touchdowns, 454 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns on 46 carries, and it’s easy to see why Rivals ranks Austin as the No. 81 overall player in the country.

Austin said his senior year was a huge opportunity for him, in a number of ways.

“I felt like it was a great opportunity to work on my skills that I set for myself last year,” Austin said. “And maximize how much better I can get once I get to Notre Dame.”

Austin said he’s had discussions about just that with Irish wide receiver coach DelVaughn Alexander, and is looking forward to working with the second-year coach when he arrives in South Bend this summer.

“Coach Alexander has talked to me about the things I can improve on,” Austin said. “

and the things he can help me improve on once I get there.”

Austin was undoubtedly a leader on his North Broward squad, and despite failing to qualify for the postseason, Austin said he was still thrilled with the way his team performed throughout the year.

“The season was great,” Austin said. “We missed the playoff by one point, unfortunately, but we overcame a lot of challenges that a lot of people didn’t think we’d overcome.”

Austin, the No. 14 wide receiver in the class of 2018, plans to sign his National Letter of Intent this week during the inaugural early signing period from Dec. 20-22.
