Four-Star OL Has High Praises Of Notre Dame’s Jeff Quinn

Hammond (Wis.) St. Croix Central class of 2022 offensive lineman Carson Hinzman had a big spring, adding scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, LSU, Miami, Michigan and Oregon. The four-star prospect is in awe of what the process has brought him early on as a rising junior.

“You can’t really put it into words,” Hinzman said. “It’s been crazy, and I’m really blessed to say that I have the opportunity to go to one of these schools.”

Iowa, LSU, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State and Wisconsin are a few schools who Hinzman, a 6-4, 275-pounder, keeps in regular contact with.

Notre Dame was the third program to offer Hinzman. He visited South Bend to catch a game inside Notre Dame Stadium last November and left campus armed with an offer from the Fighting Irish.

“Coach [Jeff] Quinn and I really have been in touch, and it has been awesome,” Hinzman said. "We talk on a regular, routine basis.”

College coaches aren’t allowed to directly call class of 2022 prospects until Sept. 1 of their junior year of high school. Some programs will set up each call with the prospect’s high school coach, while others simply have the prospect call them each week at a specific time. With his 2022 prospects, Quinn sticks with the latter option most of the time.

“We’ve had some really great talks,” Hinzman said. “I’m really thankful that he sets aside his time to talk to me. I know he’s really busy right now.”

The topics for Hinzman and Quinn to discuss are limitless.

“Just about anything and everything,” he said. “We talk about what’s going on with our week. I live on a farm and have a lot of farm cats, and my mom felt bad because it was storming good outside to leave them out. I had them crawling up my leg, and we talked about that story. We talk about fishing a little bit. It’s been good.”

Quinn always tells his offensive line targets about his “five F’s” which consists of faith, family, football, fishing and fun. He’s discussed them with Hinzman over phone and video calls.

“I love Coach Quinn,” Hinzman said. “He’s an extremely enthusiastic guy. When you talk to him, he always has a big smile on his face and is ready to get after it. He’s a really great guy; it’s hard to put someone like that into words. He does a really excellent job with what he does. He has a great relationship with his players. My hat is off to him.”

Rivals lists Hinzman as a center, and while he very well may end up playing there in college, he’s being viewed as more of center/guard combo prospect. The defending national champions have even talked to Hinzman about playing on the outside.

“I was talking to LSU, and they were picturing me at tackle,” Hinzman said. “I always tell coaches that I’ll play center to safety for you. I really do not care where I play. I just want to help my team win.”
