Notre Dame picked up the 19th commitment in its 2018 class Monday when North Fort Myers (Fla.) High three-star cornerback Joseph Wilkins Jr. announced his pledge to the Irish.

As always, BlueandGold.com brought its readers extensive coverage of the commitment, links to all of which can be found on this page.

The decision for Wilkins to commit to Notre Dame came on the heels of an official visit for the Wake Forest game, which he discussed with BlueandGold.com recruiting reporter David McKinney. You can read Wilkins’ thoughts in his trip to Notre Dame HERE.

When Wilkins committed Monday night, BlueandGold.com had a commit story up moments later. You can read that HERE.

Not long after the announcement, McKinney spoke with Wilkins and the new Irish commit went in-depth on what made Notre Dame the right choice for him. You can read about why Wilkins chose Notre Dame HERE.

McKinney also spoke with North Fort Myers head coach Earnest Graham, an eight-year NFL veteran, to see what kind of player Notre Dame is getting in Wilkins. You can read that HERE.

BlueandGold.com football analyst Bryan Driskell, who gives Wilkins a four-star grade and a 4.5-star upside grade, took a look at what the commitment of Wilkins means for Notre Dame and where the Irish head next at the cornerback position. You can read Driskell’s class impact story HERE.

Driskell ranked Wilkins as the No. 6 cornerback on the Notre Dame’s board and said the new Irish commit is one of the more solid all-around cornerback prospects the Irish were recruiting.

“Wilkins is a smooth athlete with very good body control,” Driskell wrote. “He possesses quick feet, and he’s pretty physical for a skinny player. Once he adds more weight and strength, he’ll be a legitimate player in the run game.

“He’s a smart player that stays under control, doesn’t overreact to receiver moves and makes good reads on the ball. Wilkins has the makings of a ball hawk at cornerback thanks to his combination of intelligence, instincts and length.”
