Notre Dame has picked up its 19th commitment in the class of 2018.

Following an official visit to South Bend this weekend to watch Notre Dame take on Wake Forest, North Fort Myers (Fla.) High three-star athlete Joseph Wilkins Jr. pulled the trigger on a commitment to Notre Dame.

Wilkins pulls double duty at North Fort Myers as a wide receiver and cornerback, but Notre Dame likes him on defense.

After being offered by the Irish on May 16, Wilkins immediately started showing significant interest in the Irish.

The main recruiters for Wilkins on the Irish coaching staff were defensive backs coach Todd Lyght and runnings back coach Autry Denson.

Wilkins built a strong relationship with both coaches, and that was a huge part of why the Florida talent decided South Bend would be the place for him.

By joining the commit list, Wilkins gives the Irish their first cornerback commitment in the 2018 class, the second pledge from the state of Florida (along with wide receiver Kevin Austin) and the 19th commitment overall.

Through eight games as a senior, Wilkins has 20 receptions for 443 yards and six touchdowns at receiver, while recording 28 total tackles and two interceptions according to MaxPreps.

Wilkins chose the Irish over offers from Kentucky, Michigan State, NC State, Louisville, South Carolina, Washington State and several others.
