Last week, Notre Dame extended a new offer to Attalla (Ala.) Etowah athlete De’Rickey Wright, a three-star who the Irish see as a safety at the next level.
The 6-foot-4, 215 pound Wright said when the offer came, he was nearly speechless.
“I was amazed,” Wright told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “I know what a tremendous school they are and what a great football team they have right now.”
Wright said the thing that caught his attention the most about Notre Dame is the simple fact that it’s a program that knows how to win.
“They’re used to winning,” Wright said. “They were in the College Football Playoff this year, so they’ve got really good things going there. It would be amazing to be a part of it. “
The offer for Wright came from offensive coordinator and Alabama native Chip Long, who made a strong first impression on the Etowah standout.
“He’s a very cool guy,” Wright said. “He grew up and went to high school just down the road from me and he seems like a great coach.”
