As it currently stands, Indianapolis Cathedral Prep will be sending one player in each of the 2017 and 2018 classes to Notre Dame in four-star linebacker Pete Werner and 2018 four-star running back Markese Stepp.

But, those aren’t the only two Cathedral players the Notre Dame coaching staff has their eye on. Emil Ekiyor hasn’t received an offer from the Irish, but the 2018 four-star guard impressed the staff back in June for the Lineman Challenge camp. He has a chance to impress the staff again early in the season in hopes of earning that offer.

“They said I had an impressive camp performance and they just want to see my first three games,” Ekiyor said.

Ekiyor believes he will be able to earn the offer following those three games. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder called the possibility of getting the offer an “exciting feeling” and it would bring the Irish into play in his recruitment.

“It would be an honor,” Ekiyor said of the potential offer. “They would definitely be one of my top schools.”

Notre Dame would be an attractive option for Ekiyor, who already has “pretty high” interest in the program even without the offer.

“A lot of it is being close to home [and] working with one of the best OLine coaches in the country,” Ekiyor said. “It’s definitely a great pace and they will always have the potential to compete or being in the conversation for the College Football Playoff. It also has great tradition.”

Mike Elston is the coach Ekiyor has spoken with the most, but he has also talked to Harry Hiestand and had the chance to work with him during the June camp.

“Well from my experience with him I know Coach Hiestand is a great coach,” Ekiyor said. “I really like Coach Elston.”

“[I didn’t get to work with Coach Hiestand] 1-on-1, but it was a small group so I learned a lot.”

The plan as of now for Ekiyor is to return to South Bend in September when the Spartans roll into South Bend. He is wanting to experience more of the game day atmosphere.

Ekiyor took trips to Florida State, Florida and Auburn this summer. He is done with visits for the summer and hasn’t set up any other games to attend this fall.

Florida State, Florida, Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, USC, Penn State, Tennessee and several others have already offered Ekiyor.
