On March 21, Notre Dame will welcome three-star cornerback Kasen Kinchen of Lake Stevens (Wash.) High to campus for the first time.

The 5-foot-11, 165 pound Kinchen said he’s fired up for the opportunity to see South Bend up close.

“I’m definitely really excited,” Kinchen told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “I know Notre Dame is one of the top schools in the countr. Their program is prestigious and they’re a great academic school.”

Kinchen said he started hearing from Notre Dame earlier this year, and has had some communication with cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght, who stopped by Lake Stevens during the contact period.

Lygth seems to have made a solid first impression on the Washington talent.

“He’s definitely a good coach,” Kinchen said. “He’s really straightforward and a good guy in general.”

After talking with Lyght, Kinchen said he started to look into Notre Dame more, and has been impressed with what he’s seen.

“Everything about them is so prestigious,” Kinchen said. “They’ve got great academics and a great football team of course.”

As his recruitment continues, those two factors will play a big role in Kinchen eventually choosing a school.

“Definitely academics,” Kinchen said. “I also want to be able to come in and try to play right away, and I want it to feel like a family.”

So far, Kinchen holds two offers, from Oregon and Cal.

If Notre Dame happens to offer, during his visit or down the road, Kinchen said the Irish would definitely be a top contender.

“That would be huge,” Kinchen said. “Notre Dame is so prestigious, so that would definitely be a huge offer. I’d be so excited.”
