Another day, another commitment for Notre Dame.

The Irish picked up their third commitment in less than a week when four-star inside linebacker Jack Lamb of Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak announced for the Irish.

Lamb, the No. 4 inside linebacker in the class and No. 97 overall player in the country, is the 15th overall commitment for Notre Dame in the 2018 class, and the fourth linebacker.

At Nike Football’s The Opening Finals, Lamb told Blue and Gold Illustrated he was communicating with Notre Dame and UCLA the most, and was talking with Irish coaches on a daily basis.

The Irish and Bruins emerged as the finalists to land the four-star, and for a while it seemed like UCLA held a slight edge.

On Wednesday, however, the BGI staff started to hear some positive buzz for the Irish.

Lamb made good on those prognostications Thursday when he announced his decision around 9:00 p.m. eastern time.

With Lamb's commitment, Notre Dame now has three commits in the Rivals100 and eight in the Rivals250, giving them the N0. 8 overall class in the country.

At No. 97 nationally, Lamb is the Irish’s third-highest rated commit behind safety Derrik Allen at No. 47 and quarterback Phil Jurkovec at No. 69.

The new Irish pledge visited Notre Dame on June 23 and was blown away by what the coaching staff showed him.

What really stood out on the visit, Lamb said, was the film session with defensive coordinator Mike Elko.

"I got to watch a little bit of film with Coach Elko,” Lamb said. “We were sitting in his office and talking about what he thinks I’d be doing in all his formations.”

Elkos’ science-like approach to the game had Lamb instantly enamored.

“You only get to do that every so often,” Lamb said. “Most people think of football as a game, but I like to think of it as a science. You’ve got to win using scheme. The players and talent only get you so far."

Lamb said that what Notre Dame can offer him off the field was also a huge factor in his decision.

“They have a great academic platform there," Lamb told Rivals' Adam Gorney. "After you’re done there, if the NFL doesn’t work out, you have that great degree to fall back on. It’s worldwide. Everybody knows Notre Dame.”
