Update: A subsequent tweet by Football Scoop clarifies that Borges is not interviewing for the Notre Dame OC job. He plans to stop at Notre Dame because he is in the area.

According to Yahoo Sports, Al Borges will interview for the open Notre Dame offensive coordinator position this week.

Borges, 61, is currently the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at San Jose State. Prior to that stop, he was the OC/QB coach at Michigan under Brady Hoke from 2011-13. He was fired by Hoke after the Wolverines' offense ranked 87th in the country in 2013. Five times that season, Michigan had less than 300 yards of total offense.

In a follow up report by Football Scoop, Borges is “is not a candidate for the job.”

Borges has also had offensive coordinator stints at Portland State (1986-92), Boise State (1993-94), Oregon (1995), UCLA (1996-00), California (2001), Indiana (2002-03), Auburn (2004-07) and San Diego State (2009-10, 15-present).

He was a finalist for the Broyles Award — which goes to the nation’s top assistant coach — in 1997 and 1998 at UCLA.

At Auburn in 2004, he coordinated the offense for the undefeated Tigers. Auburn scored 34 points or more six times in nine Southeastern Conference games.

Notre Dame is looking to replace Mike Sanford, who was named Western Kentucky head coach last week.
