The worst-case scenario has already settled into South Bend. Not only did Notre Dame lose to Marshall on Saturday, but the Irish also lost starting quarterback Tyler Buchner for the season with a shoulder injury.

It’s serious gut-check time this week with California (2-0) coming to town Saturday (2:30 p.m. EDT on NBC) and ND head coach Marcus Freeman still looking for his first win.

Mike Golic Jr., who saw his share of unexpected losses as an offensive lineman at Notre Dame (2008-12), joined the Inside ND Sports podcast to discuss the loss to Marshall, what has surprised him about ND's 0-2 start, his confidence in Freeman, what it's like when a starting quarterback is lost for the season, how ND's offensive line can improve and more.

Then Tyler James and Eric Hansen answered questions from Twitter and The Insider Lounge (36:24).
