According to the Mahoning County Sheriff's public records, Mahone was arrested on counts of disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, intimidation and vandalism. Notre Dame had no immediate comment on Mahone's status within the University or the football program.
Mahoning County is located in Northeast Ohio and includes Mahone's hometown of Austintown. Mahone is a graduate of Fitch High School.
Mahone's two years at Notre Dame have been marked with injuries and frustration for the former four-star recruit, who was part of a recruiting class that's already shed four members.
After a red-shirt freshman season Mahone slipped to sixth on the depth chart at running back before moving to slot receiver last August. A severe ankle sprain suffered during training camp short-circuited Mahone's sophomore season as he never factored into the slot receiver mix behind Daniel Smith and CJ Prosise. Mahone had looked like an outside contender in the slot competition this spring with Prosise and Amir Carlisle, but a foot fracture ended his spring practice after its first week.
Head coach Brian Kelly said last week that Mahone had returned to off-season work with the team.
