Introducing New 2022 Notre Dame OL Target Billy Schrauth

Fond Du Lac (Wis.) St. Mary’s Springs Academy class of 2022 offensive lineman Billy Schrauth has seen his recruiting stock skyrocket in the past couple weeks.

In January, Schrauth earned offers from Central Michigan, Iowa, Western Michigan and Wisconsin. He then went a few months without landing his next offer, but since April 10 Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State joined his scholarship sheet.

He received the good news from Notre Dame last Friday. Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn got in contact with Schrauth’s high school coach, and then the sophomore standout gave Quinn a call.

Schrauth, a class of 2022 offensive lineman from Fond Du Lac (Wis.) St. Mary’s Springs Academy, added an offer from Notre Dame April 17.

“My dad and I talked to him for probably a half hour,” Schrauth said. “It was a good conversation about my future, I could tell he really cared about it.”

Schrauth wasn’t expecting to land the offer from Notre Dame, but that’s in part because he doesn’t know just how interested schools are before offering as college coaches can’t directly reach out to prospects until Sept. 1 of their junior year.

The Notre Dame staff has been keeping in contact with Schrauth’s coach though, and 6-5, 275-pounder visited South Bend when the Irish dismantled Boston College last November.

“He’s a great guy,” Schrauth added. “His dad and my dad were in kind of the same business [livestock]. They could’ve kept talking for a couple of hours. That took a big chunk of the call. I’m just excited about the offer.”

Schrauth first experienced Notre Dame several years ago when his older brother Sam Schrauth camped with the Irish as a recruit back in the 2014 class. Sam graduated from Minnesota State in 2018.

He saw his first game inside Notre Dame Stadium when the Fighting Irish defeated Michigan back in 2018. He visited Notre Dame as a recruit last fall when he had no scholarship offers, and now he has the Irish on his offer sheet.

“You can tell [Notre Dame] a special place,” Schrauth said. “I’ve been working so hard and it’s kind of weird seeing all of this unfold. Everything happened so quickly. My first offer was Western Michigan in the winter.

“I didn’t expect everything to blow up as fast as it did.”

Schrauth is being recruited as an offensive lineman, but is also being looked at by various schools along the defensive line.

“I want to get a good education for sure,” Schrauth added. “I have to do something after football.”
