Notre Dame didn't have to wait for the Blue-Gold Game to start before it received its first bit of good news on the recruiting front.
In the middle of a two-day unofficial visit to Notre Dame, four-star defensive tackle Davion Dixon gave his verbal commitment to the Irish coaching staff Friday. Dixon became Notre Dame's first 2025 class commitment.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Dixon made his way to Notre Dame this weekend for his second trip to campus. He previously visited Notre Dame in June for a camp. Irish defensive line coach Al Washington followed up with a scholarship offer in February.

Dixon committed to Notre Dame with an offer list that included the likes of Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Penn State, Michigan State, and Nebraska. Dixon had been showing particular interest in Florida, Florida State and Nebraska.
"It is the best investment for my future," Dixon said in a text message to Inside ND Sports when asked why he committed to Notre Dame on Friday.
In 11 games as a sophomore at Miami (Fla.) Belen Jesuit, Dixon totaled 70 tackles, 33 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks.
Rivals ranks Dixon as the No. 10 defensive tackle and No. 185 overall in the 2025 class. Washington now has as many 2025 commitments on the defensive line that he does in the 2024 class. Four-star defensive tackle Owen Wafle remains the only 2024 defensive line commitment still with the Irish.
“Dixon is massive already but he’s not just a space eater," said Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney. "He can move surprisingly well for his size, he cleans up plays that take long to develop and Dixon plays with a really impressive motor."
"The Miami Belen Jesuit Prep standout will have to watch his weight moving forward and stay in shape, because if he gets any bigger he might lose some of that special speed and maneuverability that makes him such an asset. Dixon just visited Florida for its spring game and that was one school to watch but an early pledge to Notre Dame is definitely big for the Irish.”
Notre Dame's first commitment in the 2024 class also came from a defensive lineman during the Blue-Gold Game weekend last year. Four-star defensive end Brandon Davis-Swain gave Washington and head coach Marcus Freeman his verbal commitment before he left campus that weekend. His commitment to the Irish ended in December.
