Earlier this year, 2021 running back Donovan Edwards got his first look at Notre Dame during an unofficial visit.
Edwards, one of the top ball carriers in the class of 2021, said he is a big fan of what Notre Dame has to offer.
“Notre Dame is a cool place to be,” Edwards told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “They’re very traditional, and I think it’s cool how traditional they are.”
While on campus, Edwards spent some time with Irish head coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Chip Long.
According to Edwards, Kelly told him they have a clear vision for the player and person he could become in South Bend.
“I talked to Coach Kelly and Coach Long,” Edwards explained. “Coach Kelly said they know a big-time running back that could have an impact at Notre Dame and his name is Donovan Edwards. That meant a lot to me.”
It’s early for Edwards, who has a ton of offers from major programs across the country.
The West Bloomfield (Mich.) High product holds offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin and several others.
Being that his recruiting process is just starting to roll along, Edwards said he is taking things fairly slow.
“I haven’t thought about them much, but I like them,” Edwards said of Notre Dame. “I want to get back down there for sure.”
When the offer for Edwards came from Notre Dame, the Michigan talent joked that he realized maybe he’s brighter than he thought.
“If I’m being honest,” Edwards began. “I was like ‘dang, I’m kind of smart.”
