A Notre Dame Offer Could Change Things For 2018 OL Dawson Jaramillo

Offensive line coach Harry Hiestand is a busy man with the start of fall camp being added to his attempt to finish up the 2017 line class.

Hiestand is off to a good start with commitments from four-star Robert Hainsey of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, four-star Joshua Lugg of Wexford (Pa.) North Allegheny and three-star Dillan Gibbons of Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic.

Despite that good start, Hiestand is still looking to add two more top-notch blockers to the class. The need to finish out the class has slowed down pursuit of 2018 linemen, but Hiestand is starting to move in that direction.

One player on the early radar is Lake Oswego (Ore.) four-star offensive tackle Dawson Jaramillo, who attended Notre Dame’s Blue-Gold Game this past April.

“I thought it was amazing and was very intrigued by the campus and the athletic facilities,” the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Jaramillo said.

Jaramillo previously told Blue & Gold that Hiestand wanted to see more of his film and was “interested and he’s excited to keep in touch and talk in the future.”

Though he hasn’t received an offer, Jaramillo is still interested in the Irish and believes an offer from Hiestand and Notre Dame would change his recruitment a bit.

“An offer would mean massive amounts to me. Notre Dame speaks for itself with its rich history of great football teams and winning records over the years,” Jaramillo said. “The history of Notre Dame and the athletic excellence the coaches expect from every player [interest me]. I like to hold myself to a higher standard and I want a coach that will complement that.”

Jaramillo is hoping to hear back from Notre Dame here soon. He isn’t sure when he will return to Notre Dame, but it likely won’t be this fall.

When he was last in South Bend, Jaramillo didn’t hold any offers, but when and if he returns, he will at least carry offers from in-state Oregon and Oregon State, Washington and California. He visited all four schools this fall.

Jaramillo did say distance from home will play a factor in his recruitment.

Notre Dame has only extended three 2018 offensive line offers: Rivals100 Fairfield (Ohio) four-star tackle Jackson Carman, Stockbridge (Ga.) Woodland four-star offensive tackle James Ohonba and Rivals100 Atlanta Pace Academy four-star offensive guard Jamaree Salyer.
