Torii Hunter Jr. To Forego Final Season And Play Pro Baseball

Notre Dame senior wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr.’s career at Notre Dame is over.

The two-sport athlete announced on Twitter Thursday that he is foregoing his fifth year of eligibility and will play professional baseball.

The Los Angeles Angels selected Hunter, the son of former MLB standout Torii Hunter, in the 23rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

Hunter Jr., a captain this past season, caught 38 passes for 521 yards and three touchdowns in 2016. As a junior, he had 28 catches for 363 yards and two touchdowns.

Hunter Jr. missed three games in 2016 with injury. He did not play against Nevada after sustaining a concussion against Texas, and missed the Army and Virginia Tech games with a knee injury.
