Brady Dunlap doubled the size of the 2023 recruiting class for Notre Dame men’s basketball Thursday night.

The three-star shooting guard from Los Angeles announced his verbal commitment to the Irish after making an official visit to campus last weekend. Dunlap picked Notre Dame from a top six that also included Colorado, Nebraska, Providence, Rice and San Diego State.

Dunlap joined three-star point guard Markus Burton in the 2023 class. The two-man class for head coach Mike Brey is ranked No. 45 in the country by Rivals.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound Dunlap was one of 10 players named to the Los Angeles Times’ All-Star boys’ basketball team for the 2021-22 season. As a junior at Harvard-Westlake, Dunlap averaged 16 points, four rebounds and three assists for a team that finished 25-4 with a season-ending loss in the CIF Southern Section Open Division final.

“Brady Dunlap fits what Notre Dame likes to do offensively,” said Rivals national basketball recruiting analyst Travis Graf. “He's skilled, has size to play either the three or four spot depending on weight gain over time, and is a promising shooter.

“He needs to become a more consistent defender and rebounder before Mike Brey will trust him with a ton of minutes, but his ability to knock down shots should help him to find the floor in spurts early on. Dunlap has the potential to be a good college basketball player in time if he pieces little micro skills and smaller pieces of his game into one mesh-able product.”

Dunlap played alongside Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, on the Strive For Greatness team in the Nike EYBL Circuit earlier this year. In the Peach Jam national showcase in July, Dunlap averaged 13.2 points in six games while struggling to find his shooting rhythm — 14-of 42 (33.3%) from 3 and 31-of-79 (39.2%) from the field.

Dunlap’s father, Jeff, coached as an assistant with several college programs including NC State, Alabama and Georgia and played at UCLA in the ‘80s.

Prior to committing to Notre Dame, Brady Dunlap made an official visit to San Diego State on Sept. 3 and was scheduled to make an official visit to Colorado this weekend.
