In a major surprise, Notre Dame has landed Rivals250 cornerback Noah Boykin of Washington (D.C.) H.D. Woodson on National Signing Day.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder was almost part of the Irish class once, but was unable to pull the trigger away from his then-Maryland commitment. Boykin ultimately backed off his pledge from Maryland just says after an official visit to Florida narrowing his recruitment to those two programs, Notre Dame and Virginia.

Following that trip to Gainesville, Boykin told Rivals analyst Adam Friedman that he “pretty much” knew where he was going and the Gators seemed to have all the momentum.

But, the Irish staff including cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght and safeties coach Terry Joseph kept pushing for the talented cornerback and their efforts have paid off.

Boykin took an official visit to South Bend when Notre Dame hosted NC State and raved about the trip and his potential fit at the program.

“It was amazing,” Boykin said after the visit. “My mom, she really liked it. She loved it. I was sitting there like ‘oh my god, this is like something I’ve never seen before.

“It’s a great place and an inspiring place. I can really see myself thriving at that school. I’m just taking everything one step at a time.”

Notre Dame now has landed two cornerbacks today also grabbing Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College product DJ Brown. Boykin ranks as the nation’s No. 21 cornerback and No. 204 player nationally.
