Answer: A. In 2000, the Irish defeated USC to clinch a Fiesta Bowl bid and earn Davie a five-year extension on his contract, and the next season they won at Purdue Dec. 1 to finish 5-6 (the game was postponed until December because of 9-11). The next day Davie was fired.
