Notre Dame's Nelson Named Sports Illustrated Preseason All-American

Quenton Nelson (left)

Notre Dame junior offensive guard Quenton Nelson has been named a preseason first-team All-American by Sports Illustrated.

The 6-foot-6, 325-pound native of Holmdel, New Jersey, was the only Notre Dame player to make the list. Nelson started all 13 games last season for the Irish.

The Big Ten and SEC tied for the most selections on the first team with eight each. The SEC had the most players on the overall list with 18 on the first or second teams, eight more than the Big Ten and nine more than the ACC and Pac-12.

A full list of the teams can be found HERE.

Also on Tuesday, ESPN’s CFBrank poll named Notre Dame senior left tackle Mike McGlinchey as the No. 64 player overall in the country. The countdown of the list continues each day this week.

The ESPN list can be found HERE.
