Blue & Gold has confirmed that La Mirada (Calif.) High 2017 four-star athlete Elijah Hicks is no longer part of the Notre Dame class.

Hicks took a visit to Michigan and California after giving a verbal commitment to Notre Dame. With Hicks looking around, Notre Dame decided to move on and focus on other players. The plan now for Hicks is to sign with Cal and become an early enrollee.

Hicks is the second projected defensive back to exit the class with Mansfield (Texas) High four-star cornerback Paulson Adebo, who de-committed yesterday.

With Hicks and Adebo no longer in the class, Notre Dame is now without a cornerback commit in the class. Its only defensive back recruit is Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley four-star athlete Isaiah Robertson, who projects as a safety.

Notre Dame has been in hot pursuit of other cornerbacks since defensive coordinator Mike Elko was formally announced. Ocala (Fla.) Forest three-star cornerback O.J. Tucker, Windsor (Conn.) two-star cornerback Jason Pinnock, League City (Texas) Clear Creek three-star cornerback Noah Daniels (a TCU commit) and Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside three-star corner Tre Norwood (a Louisville commit) have all been contacted by the Notre Dame staff in recent days.

The loss of Hicks now leaves the Irish with 15 commitments remaining in the class, and Hicks becomes the sixth recruit to exit the class.
