Notre Dame has gone head-to-head with Stanford plenty of times the past few cycles on the recruiting trail, and it looks the Irish are ready to go to battle once again with the Pac-12 school. The Irish offered Woodstock (Ga.) Etowah High three-star safety Stuart Head on Thursday.

Head — who is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 28 safety in the country — visited South Bend back in November for the Wake Forest game, but committed to Stanford a month later after visiting Palo Alto.

"I am very solid on my commitment, but Notre Dame is definitely a great school to be recruited by," Head told Blue & Gold Illustrated. "They've been recruiting me for some time now."

Head also holds offers from Clemson, Duke, Northwestern, Maryland, Georgia Tech and North Carolina. He's listed as a safety at 6-4, 210-pound but has the frame to grow into a linebacker at the next level.

"The [Notre Dame] coaches said that they really like the way that I play on film," Head said after his visit. "They said they see my as maybe in a hybrid type position. They see me as a safety that could maybe roll down into a hybrid linebacker. But just the way that I developed will probably play out to where they recruit me."

Notre Dame offered Indianapolis Cathedral four-star linebacker Pete Werner earlier this week. Werner — like Head — is a high school defensive back that projects as a linebacker in college. He also likes both Stanford and Notre Dame, which means that Head won't by the only hybrid defender that the Irish will challenge the Cardinal for down the stretch.
