Princeton (N.J.) Hun School class of 2022 offensive tackle Jacob Allen has seen his recruiting process explode during the offseason.

He started picking up offers slowly last year, and Virginia and West Virginia were the notable schools on his offer list in 2019. His stock skyrocketed this spring, though, with offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Oklahoma all coming in for the four-star recruit.

“It’s been exciting, but I’m not thinking about it too much,” the 6-6, 260-pounder said. “I’m focusing on our [upcoming] season. The recruiting process definitely came a lot faster than I expected. I was thinking this would happen this time next year, if anything.”

Notre Dame was one of Allen’s more recent offers, with Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn giving the news to him May 15. Allen knew that Notre Dame was looking at him because the staff was in contact with his high school head coach, but the first contact he had with the Irish was the phone call with Quinn in which he earned the offer.

Quinn spoke to Allen and his parents for about 40 or 50 minutes.

“He’s a great guy,” Allen said of Quinn. “He loves Notre Dame and everything about it. It shows that he’s passionate about it. I’ve been talking to him every week over FaceTime, and we’ve been talking about what Notre Dame does football-wise and what it would be like coming an what we’re up to now.”

Allen has a time set up each week to give Quinn a call so they can build their early relationship. Their call last week was just catching up, whereas the previous two weeks were more football-specific topics.

Allen is still very new to the process as his recruitment blew up just in the past few months, and the only visit he’s taken to this point was Rutgers, which was a week before the coronavirus pandemic shut down visits.

In helping Hun School to a 7-2 record last fall, Allen blocked for a rushing attack that totaled 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns, per MaxPreps.
