Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas wasn’t able to get the win against Las Vegas Bishop Gorman when the high school juggernauts faced off on ESPN Sept. 30, but it was still an impressive night for Notre Dame three-star linebacker commit Drew White.

White had 14 tackles during the 25-24 loss that ended on a Bishop Gorman two-point conversion in triple overtime.

St. Thomas Aquinas head coach Roger Harriott said it was the kind of performance he’s come to expect from White.

“He played his heart out and performed well for us,” Harriott said. “He did an exceptional job leading our defense with inspiration throughout the game.”

Harriott added that White’s performances during his senior campaign have earned him the adoration of the rest of the team.

“Drew is having an outstanding senior season so far,” Harriott said. “He is currently leading the team in tackles. Overall, he has earned the respect and admiration of his teammates and coaches.”

White has taken on a leadership role at STA, and Harriott said White’s maturity and leadership make him stand out from the average high school football player.

“Drew’s leadership qualities and character traits separate him from other players,” Harriott said. “His desire to exceed expectations as a positive role model, on and off the field, has enabled him to gain admiration from his coaches and teammates.

“He is a true student of the game with an extremely high football IQ. He possesses the physical ability and intelligence to lead a defense and disrupt opposing offensive schemes.”

Harriott added that those leadership skills White brings to the field also translate to the classroom.

“Drew possesses innate leadership qualities, which positions him as an exemplary role model on and off the field,” Harriott said. “His 5.0 GPA and willingness to serve our community are direct reflections of his character, attitude and performance.”

It’s those qualities, physical and mental, that Harriott said leads him to believe White will be a perfect fit at Notre Dame.

“Notre Dame is meticulous with their recruiting process,” Harriott said. “They do a great job of finding elite, scholar athletes. In my humble opinion, Drew's intellectual nature, athleticism, physicality, work ethic, and faith in God makes him an ideal fit the Fighting Irish.
