Notre Dame Commit, Targets On Preseason All-USA Today Offensive Team

Michael Mayer has earned another honor.

The four-star Notre Dame tight end commit was selected to the 2019 All-USA Today Preseason High School Offensive Team this week.

After a dominant showing at The Opening Finals this summer, Mayer, who committed to Notre Dame last year, is looking to lead Covington Catholic (Ky.) to its second state title since 2017.

Mayer recorded 46 receptions for 1,029 yards and 12 touchdowns last season and was the team’s leading tackler.

At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, Mayer is ranked as the No. 3 tight end and No. 71 overall recruit in the nation, per Rivals.com.

Mayer was the only Notre Dame commit listed, but he was joined by a pair of targets in elite 2021 offensive linemen Tommy Brockermeyer and Landon Tengwall.

Brockermeyer, who will miss his junior season due to injury, visited Notre Dame this summer and has the Irish in his top group. However, the Texas legacy will be a tough pull out of the Lone Star State.

Tengwall is one of the top overall priorities for Notre Dame next cycle. Tengwall appeared to be leaning Notre Dame early on, but now, Michigan and Penn State are huge factors in his recruitment.

Brockermeyer is ranked as the No. 10 overall recruit in the 2021 class, while Tengwall is ranked No. 59.
