Earlier this week, Notre Dame became the first scholarship offer for Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College High long snapper Alex Peitsch.

Ranked as the No. 1 long snapper in the class by Kohl’s Kicking Camp, Peitsch said Irish special teams coordinator Brian Polian has had his eye on him for a while, and an offer was just a matter of time.

“We’ve been talking for a while,” Peitsch explained. “I was kind of expecting it, but it didn’t really hit me at first.”

When it finally did set in, Peitsch said he was fired up.

“It really is crazy, and it’s really gratifying too,” Peitsch told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “I put in all this work, so it was a little frustrating, putting in a lot of work without a lot of results. So it was really gratifying and I’m very honored to have an offer from Notre Dame.”

Polian, Peitsch said, has made a strong impression on him in the time the two have been communicating.

“I really like him,” Peitsch said. “He’s an honest dude and he’s going to tell you what’s up. I like that and I respect that. He’s very upfront.”

Notre Dame is ahead of the game with Peitsch, especially considering they were the first school to offer him a scholarship.

The talented long snapper has already been on campus as well, taking in a spring practice last month.

Peitsch said everything about Notre Dame impressed him, and the school offers exactly what he’s looking for.

“There are three things I want when I’m looking for schools,” Peitsch said. “One of them is a scholarship, which I got, the second one is big-time football and the third thing is great academics. Notre Dame nails all three.”

As for a decision, Peitsch said he wants to take some time to see if any other schools show interest, but Notre Dame will be in the thick of things no matter who comes along.

“I’m not really sure yet, I’m still processing everything,” Peitsch said of a timeline for a decision. “As of right now, I’m very happy with Notre Dame.”
