Pinson (Ala.) Pinson Valley quarterback Bo Nix can surprise people.

Nix, a four-star 2019 quarterback, picked up an offer from Notre Dame on Tuesday. According to his father and head coach Patrick Nix, a former college QB at Auburn, Bo can make all throws necessary, but that’s not all he can do.

“He’s very unique in the fact that he can check every box,” Nix said. “He can run, he can throw and he’s got good size. He’s not a dual threat quarterback or a pocket quarterback, he’s both. He can make every throw and put you in the right protections.”

As a sophomore, Bo Nix threw for 1,737 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions as a while adding 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns.

His athleticism, along with his competitive streak, are the two characteristics that stick out the most about his game, Nix said.

“The first thing people tell me about him is how they love how competitive he is,” Nix said. “He’s super competitive and the guys he’s been around love that. Guys who watch him on tape love the way he throws the ball, and are surprised at how athletic he is.”

Nix said his son’s game doesn’t lean toward one style of quarterbacking. Instead, he believes Bo has found the perfect balance between them.

“He can do all the stuff that a pocket passer does, and at the same time, he’s athletic enough to get out and do quarterback runs and get on the edge with zone reads,” Nix said. “He’s got the size to be both and be as good as anybody at each one of them.”

Obviously, the sophomore quarterback has garnered tons of attention as a recruit. First came expected offers in the Southeast. Now, Nix is a national recruit with offers from all over the country.

“When you get places like Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, those are some of the staples of college football,” Patrick Nix said. “It’s very humbling, and he’s very blessed to have this many schools interested and recruiting him. Notre Dame is one of those household names in college football.”

The offers are coming in daily, but Nix said at the moment, recruiting isn’t his son’s main focus.

“We agreed as a family to really focus on spring football and not get caught up in recruiting,” Nix said. “We knew it was going to be crazy, so we just want to get through spring.”

When spring practice ends though, the Nix family will hit the road. South Bend, Nix said, could very likely be one of their stops.

“After spring, we’re going to sit down and look at all the teams that have offered and narrow some things down to some places we might want to go and visit that we may not have been before,” Nix said. “I’m sure Notre Dame will be in that discussion.”
