Latest Rivals150 Features All Three Notre Dame Commits
The latest edition of the Rivals150 for the class of 2018 has been released and features some Notre Dame flavor including all three Irish commits.
Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga point guard Prentiss Hubb remains the highest ranked player in Notre Dame’s class coming in at No. 62 overall which is a slight drop from his previous No. 45 ranking. In 12 games on the Under Armour Association, Hubb has led his DC Premier team to a 10-2 record while averaging 8.58 points, 3.17 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. He committed to the Irish on May 17.
Mars (Pa.) four-star guard Robby Carmody saw a little jump in his ranking moving from just inside the Rivals100 at No. 98 to No. 89 in today’s update. Carmody committed to Notre Dame on June 22 following an official visit to South Bend. In eight games with Ohio Basketball Club on the adidas AAU circuit, Carmody averaged 19.6 points per game and five rebounds.
In the backcourt, Hubb and Carmody are joined by the most recent commit in the class — Upper Arlington (Ohio) guard Dane Goodwin. The 6-foot-4, 170-pounder saw the biggest spike among Notre Dame’s commits moving from a three-star prospect ranked No. 123 overall to earning a four-star after jumping to No. 105 nationally. As a junior, Goodwin averaged 26 points and 10 rebounds per game. In 12 games on the Nike EYBL circuit, Goodwin is averaging 13 points and 4.2 rebounds.
Notre Dame could potentially add two more members to its 2018 class if Mike Brey and his staff see fit. The Irish could also stick with their current talented three-man group and scour the transfer market mid-season and find potential additions there.
“We could maybe take five,” Brey said recently. “We could, or you know what? Maybe it’s only three and you don’t force anything, and you think about another transfer at Christmas or in the spring. It could be three, it could be five. I think we’re hoping obviously with what’s already on the board for us, we can kind of methodically go out there now in the next couple of weeks and really evaluate.
“My thing is we don’t need to force anything — because we’ve got good young big guys: [Elijah] Burns, [John] Mooney and Juwan [Durham] are really good young big guys. We don’t need to force a big if it’s not a good fit for us..."
Here are where a few Irish targets fell on the list. Saxton (Vt.) Vermont Academy five-star power forward Simisola Shittu remained at his No. 9 position nationally and five-star status. He recently listed the Irish as a program courting him heavily. Stevens Point (Wisc.) power forward Joey Hauser remained in the top-50 landing at No. 43 overall. Notre Dame would love to add one of Shittu or Hauser (or both) to its 2018 class to provide a talented frontcourt player along with their stellar backcourt additions.
A couple wings also made the list — Champaign (Ill.) Central product Tim Finke and Washington (D.C.) Sidwell Friends talent Saddiq Bey.
Finke landed at No. 91 nationally on the list and remains high on the Irish. In-state Illinois is considered the team to beat given his connections to the program with his older brother currently on the basketball team and his father attending the school as well.
