After a two-day visit to Notre Dame last weekend Ben Koyack knew he had a tough decision ahead of him.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end from Oil City, Pa., had already narrowed his list to just two schools: Ohio State and Notre Dame. He said he had developed a strong relationship with the Ohio State coaching staff and thought he was a perfect fit with the Buckeyes.
Then he visited Notre Dame.
Koyack met with the Irish coaches the day before the Blue-Gold Game, then watched as the Irish tight ends made a huge impact on the spring scrimmage. On Tuesday, he verbally committed to head coach Brian Kelly.
"They just fit everything I wanted in a school," Koyack said. "It was a gut feeling."
Even before he arrived in South Bend, Koyack knew the Irish would be tough to beat. But, he had to see things for himself.
After the visit he was sure he was South Bend bound.
"(The visit) pretty much confirmed what I was thinking," he said.
With a rare skill set for a tight end and an offer list that includes USC, Oklahoma and Ohio State, Koyack should be ranked among the nation's best at his position. He's already been tabbed to the Rivals250 Watch List for the class of 2011.
