In the wake of reports that Notre Dame wide receivers coach Mike Denbrock could be heading to Cincinnati, three-star Notre Dame wide receiver commit Jordan Pouncey of Winter Park (Fla.) High has backed off his pledge to the Irish.

"I want to thank Coach Kelly, Coach Denson and Coach Denbrock for taking a chance on me by offering me a full scholarship and accepting my commitment," Pouncey said in a Tweet. "Also, I want to thank all the Irish family for accepting me into the family and treating me like a brother. With that being said, after countless prayers and discussions with my family and mentors, I have decided to reopen my recruitment and de-commit from the University of Notre Dame. Please respect me for my decision, knowing that I need to do what is best for me."

Pouncey, who has been committed to Notre Dame since June 16, was offered by Miami on Dec. 19, and took two unofficial visits to see the Hurricanes during the season on Sept. 10 and Oct. 8.

There has been speculation for a while that Miami was a possible flip destination for Pouncey, and that appears to be the most likely landing spot for the three-star.

The Florida talent also received an offer from Texas on Dec. 20.

Pouncey took an official visit to Notre Dame on Oct. 15 when the Irish hosted Stanford, and joined several other Irish commits for a visit to Notre Dame during the Echoes weekend on Dec. 9-11.

With the announcement, Pouncey becomes the fourth player to de-commit from Notre Dame’s 2017 class, joining four-star defensive tackle Donovan Jeter, four-star linebacker Pete Werner, and four-star defensive end Robert Beal
