Markese Stepp is back in action.

After missing his entire junior year due to a hamstring injury that occurred on his first carry of the year, Stepp spent the fall and spring rehabbing, and has been putting his skills on display in different camps over the last month.

On Sunday, the four-star Notre Dame running back commit competed at the Rivals Three Stripe Camp in Columbus, Ohio.

Prior to the event, Stepp checked in at 6-foot-0 and weighed in at 227.

The Indianapolis Cathedral product said following the camp that he felt good about the way he performed.

“It felt good,” Stepp said. “I feel like I did pretty good.”

Most importantly, Stepp said his hamstring felt strong, and didn’t give him any problems during the camp.

However, he added that he’s still not exactly where he’d like to be.

“I’m still trying to get back to my top speed,” Stepp said. “I’m still working to get to that point.”

“It feels good,” Stepp added. “I’m still trying to knock some of the rust off though.”

When it comes down to it though, Stepp said the biggest positive of the day was just being back on a football field and competing.

“It’s pretty fun to be out here,” Stepp said. “I enjoyed it a lot. Just running around and getting back. It was fun to get back to work.”

Sunday was the second camp Stepp has competed in this offseason.

On April 30, Stepp traveled to New Jersey to participate in Nike Football’s The Opening Regional along with fellow Notre Dame commits Jayson and Justin Ademilola.

That event was Stepp’s first time being full go since the injury, which said was quite exciting.

“It went well,” Stepp said of his Opening appearance. “All the skill stuff and everything went well. Testing, it didn’t go like I wanted it to, but it was a good experience for me to finally get back and compete with other people.”

With two camps now under his belt, Stepp said he feels good about where his game is headed.

“I’m excited,” Stepp said. “I’m just trying to do my best everywhere I go.”

On August 18, Stepp will be back in full pads as Cathedral travels to Louisville, Ky. to take on St. Xavier.

That kickoff, Stepp said, can’t come soon enough.

“It was pretty hard,” Stepp said of sitting out last season. “In wins or losses, you always just want to get out there. It’s hard to just sit there and watch. It was heartbreaking.”

Missing all that time though, Stepp said, will make his senior campaign even sweeter.

“It makes it a lot better,” Stepp said.
