Corona (Calif.) Centennial class of 2022 cornerback Jaden Mickey committed to Notre Dame March 14, 2021 sight unseen. He got his first look at the campus over the weekend during his 48-hour official visit.

Mickey spent a lot of time with his player host, Ramon Henderson, met several Irish commits and had plenty of bonding opportunities with his future coaches. He recapped it all with BlueandGold.com.

Did being at Notre Dame live up to expectations?

Mickey: “Definitely. It was everything I thought it was when I made my decision to commit.”

What did you do and think about everything?

Mickey: “I got to see the campus, hang out with the commits and some of the players. The atmosphere was really nice. Everyone hangs out with each other and connects really well.

“I love Coach Mickens. He’s a really competitive guy and brings a lot of energy just like me. We got along really well over the weekend.”

Tell me more about the coaches. What were they like in person?

Mickey: “Being around Coach Mickens and Coach Freeman – it’s funny because they compete with each other like I compete with my friends. We had a corn hole tournament, and they’re really competitive guys. I loved being around Coach Polian; he’s really funny. They all showed a lot of love.”

I’m sure you and your family sat down with Coach Kelly. What was that like, and what was he saying?

Mickey: “He’s a really nice, cool guy. He’s great at relating with people and making conversation. I liked him.”

What was your favorite activity of the visit?

Mickey: “Probably the photo shoot — not a surprise. It was fun. I also liked seeing the campus in person; that was really nice. They have a lot of rare things that you get to see on campus. It’s unique.

I’m sure your parents’ favorite part wasn’t the photoshoot (laughs). What did they like about the visit?

Mickey: “They absolutely loved it. They hung out with Coach Mickens, Coach Freeman, Coach Polian and Coach O’Leary all weekend. They absolutely loved it. My mom was super happy to see the golden dome in person; that was probably her favorite part.”
