Former Notre Dame LT Ronnie Stanley Shines In Preseason

Ronnie Stanley (USA TODAY Sports)

Former Notre Dame star left tackle Ronnie Stanley, who was selected sixth overall by the Baltimore Ravens, has thrived through two preseason games.

In wins against the Panthers and Colts, Stanley has been impressive. According to Pro Football Focus, Stanley is the top-rated rookie tackle thus far.

PFF, which grades every single snap of every game, said Stanley has not allowed a quarterback pressure in his 48 snaps.

"So far in the preseason, Stanley has lived up to his billing, standing as the top-graded rookie tackle through two games, and has yet to surrender a single pressure in pass protection," PFF said.

After playing under Irish offensive line coach Harry Hiestand and paving the way for 1,000-yard rusher C.J. Prosise in 2015, Stanley was considered an NFL-ready prospect.

He signed a four-year deal that will pay him a fully guaranteed $20.5 million. His contract also includes a fifth-year option in 2020.

The learning curve has been quick for Stanley. He has been thrust into a starting role at left tackle, and since then has produced results.

Stanley was a game-time decision for the first preseason game, battling a soft-tissue issue that forced him out of practice a few days prior.

“I was very much looking forward to playing today,” Stanley told the team's website. “I really didn’t want anything to stop me from playing and definitely wanted to be a part of this. I knew this was going to be a big moment of my life, and it was.

“I enjoyed it a lot. The fans, the whole experience, the atmosphere, was really fun. And it was really nice to be out there with the whole team.”
