FIRST HALF

Both teams came out firing from deep in the first several minutes with both teams making three three-pointers in the opening four minutes.

Farrell got the scoring started for the Irish with a knockdown three from the top of the key. Colson followed Farrell with a dunk and his own three-pointer to get the ball rolling for the Irish.

Farrell carried the Irish offense over the next few minutes scoring nine straight points. But Chaminade used the three-point line to score its first four baskets to stay in it early trailing 17-14 with 14:05 left in the half to counter Farrell’s offensive outburst.

Notre Dame’s defense clamped down over the next seven minutes holding the Silverswords scoreless while going on a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 26-14 thanks to a John Mooney three-pointer and jumpers by Colson and Martinas Geben to go with a pair of free throws by Farrell.

The teams traded baskets from the seven-minute mark until about three minutes remaining with the Irish holding a 32-22 edge. Colson went on a personal 4-0 run to push the lead to 36-22 with under two minutes remaining.

Chaminade was able to get some quick offense in the final minutes including an off-balance three by Brett Reed to close Notre Dame’s lead 38-29 heading into the half.

Overall, Notre Dame shot 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) from the field including 5-of-10 behind the arc. Chaminade shot 12-of-32 (37.5 percent) in the half including 5-of-15 from deep.

The Irish turned the ball over seven times while forcing eight Chaminade turnovers. The Silverswords recorded a 17-16 rebounding advantage.

SECOND HALF

Just like the first half, Farrell and Colson got the scoring starting scoring the team’s first 13 points in the half.

Farrell continued his hot start knocking down a three and a near-three to push his total to 21 points with 17:13 left in the half. Colson followed it with two free throws and a jumper to push his total 17 with just under 15 minutes to go.

Harvey got rolling later in the opening minutes with an easy layup while attacking the basket and knocking down two free throws. Sophomore guard TJ Gibbs scored his first basket with 12:32 left in the game to give Notre Dame a 57-40 lead.

The Irish went on a 12-0 run overall in just about four minutes of game action to take a 65-40 lead with 9:27 left. Harvey scored five of those 12 points while Gibbs knocked down a three to score his first five points of the game during the run.

Notre Dame continued to pull away as the half went extending its lead to 30 points at 77-47 with 4:07 left in the half. Chaminade’s Erik Scheive knocked down a three to stop a 7-0 Irish run and keep the Silverswords within 30.
