Devin Butler Charged With Resisting Law Enforcement, Battery

Notre Dame senior cornerback Devin Butler has been formally charged with two felony counts of resisting law enforcement and battery of a police officer after an altercation early on the morning of Aug. 20 at the Linebacker Lounge.

Butler, who is currently indefinitely suspended from the football team, has an arraignment scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The two Level 6 felony charges were filed Tuesday afternoon. A level 6 felony carries a penalty of up to two-and-a-half years in prison if convicted.

On Saturday, Notre Dame released the following statement after the arrests of Butler, as well as five other football players in a separate incident.

"Any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university," Notre Dame vice president for public affairs and communications Paul Browne said in a statement. "The university will determine if additional sanctions should apply to any or all of the students charged."
