Offensive lineman Colin McGovern is planning to use his final season of college eligibility at the University of Virginia, according to Brad Franklin of CavsCorner.com.

McGovern, who played right guard in 2016, leaves Notre Dame after appearing in 21 career games with the Irish. He joins John Montelus, a fellow lineman, in transferring to the Atlantic Coast Conference program.

According to Blue & Gold Illustrated’s unofficial snap count totals this season, McGovern played 446 plays in 2016, fifth most among linemen. He did not play against Stanford and got limited reps against Syracuse, Miami and USC due to injuries.

The 6-4, 315-pound McGovern is a native of New Lenox, Ill. He was a three-star recruit out of high school in the class of 2013.
