Notre Dame has made a habit of starting its recruiting efforts off with one of the nation's top quarterbacks, and that trend continued when standout 2021 passer Tyler Buchner committed to Notre Dame. The San Diego (Calif.) The Bishop's School quarterback becomes the first player from the 2021 class to pledge to the Irish program, and it is a major pickup for the Notre Dame staff.
His commitment makes four straight years that Notre Dame has landed a quarterback as the first player in the class. Two of the previous three quarterbacks were Rivals100 players, including Phil Jurkovec in the 2018 class and Drew Pyne in the 2020 class. Buchner and the rest of the 2021 class has yet to be ranked, but it would not be surprising to see the 6-2, 195-pound quarterback earn a high ranking when that list is finally released.
