Notre Dame got two steps closer to the magic number of 85 on Thursday. Just hours after senior quarterback Everett Golson announced that he would be playing his final season of eligibility at another school, River Ridge (La.) John Curtis three-star defensive end Bo Wallace tweeted that he would not be attending Notre Dame, after signing with the Irish back in February.
Wallace, who was the lone true defensive end in the 2015 recruiting class for the Irish, told Blue & Gold Illustrated that it was a mutual decision between him and the Notre Dame coaching staff to part ways.
"Sometimes things just don't workout," Wallace said. "I can't really say what all happened, but some stuff fell into place, and it was a decision between [Notre Dame] and my household that it just wasn't going to be a fit for me."
Wallace went on to explain that then when he inked a National Letter of Intent with the Irish, everything was on track for him to be admitted to the school, but things eventually changed. He said that as of last month, there was still a chance he could enroll at the school, but after talking things over with the coaching staff, his family thought it might be best to evaluate his other options.
"It has kind of been in the works for a while now," Wallace admitted. "I talked to [Notre Dame] today and not really finalized the decision but just kind of made it clear that's what I'm going to want to do … I love Notre Dame. At the end of the day I'm still going to be Irish. I love the people, the coaches, everything."
Wallace said that he has had contact with a number of different schools but mentioned both UCLA and Tulane as two programs that have expressed interest.
"I'm fine," Wallace said. "I can't really complain. It's not that I'm happy the decision was made, but sometimes you kind of got to do things for you and your household as a family. I'm going to play regardless of the situation I just got to move forward."
Wallace was ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 26 outside linebacker in the country and the No. 20 prospect in the state of Louisiana. The Semper Fi All-American had nine sacks his senior season.
