Earlier this month, Notre Dame hosted Caleb Johnson, a 2021 offensive tackle from Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic.

The 6-foot-7, 275 pound Johnson said it was a great trip.

“Once we got there, it was really nice,” Johnson told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “It was nice to walk around the campus and see all the new stuff. It was nice.”

After spending some time on campus, Johnson said one thing in particular caught his eye in a big way.

“Definitely the indoor facility they’re building,” Johnson explained. “I think that’s going to be awesome when it’s finally finished.”

Johnson said he was able to get a great feel for Notre Dame as a whole during the visit, and is intrigued by what the Irish have to offer.

“I definitely like the history behind it,” Johnson said. “There are a lot of good players that came from Notre Dame, and they’re consistently good.”

During the visit, Johnson got to sit down with offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.

Johnson said Quinn’s approach to recruiting made a strong impression on him.

“He showed us some film and gave us some pointers,” Johnson said. “He was a real down-to-earth guy. He gave us real advice.”

Johnson is still waiting for his recruitment to really take off. He currently holds two offers, from Auburn and UAB.

Should Notre Dame ever decide to join that list, Johnson said he’d be extremely fired up.

“That’s a big-time school, so that would be really good,” Johnson said. “That’s ridiculous.”
