Notre Dame had one of the top quarterbacks from the 2020 class on campus working out yesterday with New Canaan (Ct.) quarterback Drew Pyne making the trip to South Bend for the program’s high school position camp.
One day later, the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder added Notre Dame to his offer list.
The rising junior junior already been offered by Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech among many others.
Pyne spent time working with Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees.
Pyne put up impressive numbers during his freshman campaign at New Canaan throwing for 2,347 yards and 26 touchdowns while completing 64 percent of his passes. He added 430 yards rushing. Pyne helped lead his team to a Class L state championship.
The recruitment process started early for Pyne as he began receiving offers as a middle schooler. He will be one of the most coveted quarterbacks in the 2020 class.
Rivals Mid-Atlantic analyst Adam Friedman offered his thoughts in May about Pyne and his skill set.
“Pyne is a very advanced prospect when it comes to footwork and accuracy and it will be good to see how his mechanics progress as he gets bigger and older," Friedman explained. "Listed as a pro-style quarterback, Pyne is more athletic and mobile than people give him credit for. Expect him to show of those skills as he continues to torch the New England public school leagues. Pyne already had the attention of the recruiting world after picking up offers from Florida State and Alabama before playing a down of high school football.”
