2019 QB Cade McNamara Decommits From Notre Dame

Notre Dame suffered its first setback in the 2019 recruiting class, with Reno (Nev.) Damonte Ranch four-star quarterback Cade McNamara decommitting. McNamara was Notre Dame's first commit in the class, choosing the Irish in July.

His recruitment picked up in recent months, with programs like Alabama, USC, Georgia and Michigan jumping into the mix. Instead of sticking with his commitment and competing with Gibsonia (Pa.) Pine Richland standout Phil Jurkovec - Notre Dame's 2018 quarterback signee - McNamara is going to look around and find another school.

McNamara was a highly productive player over the last two seasons, leading Damonte Ranch to a 23-2 record. The 6-1, 170-pound signal caller passed for 7,047 yards and 90 touchdowns while throwing just 19 interceptions. He completed 58.4 percent of his passes.

With McNamara now out of the class, expect Notre Dame to completely move on to other players and not work to keep him in the class. The only quarterback to get offered since McNamara was offered is Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt four-star Paul Tyson, the great grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Bear Bryant.

The Crimson Tide have offered Tyson, who is visited Alabama the same day McNamara decommitted. If he comes out of that visit still open the Irish could get back in the mix.

Tyson completed 70.8 percent of his passes in 2017, throwing for 3,392 yards, 36 touchdowns and just four interceptions while leading Hewitt-Trussville to an 11-1 record.

Notre Dame will continue to look for other quarterbacks in the class in hopes of adding a top player at the position.
