Cornerback is a much-discussed position in the world of Notre Dame recruiting.

The Irish signed no prospects at the position in the 2017 class, and are currently without a cornerback commit in 2018.

It is certainly a position of emphasis, not only in this class, but in the next class as well.

Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) The Benjamin School prospect Kaiir Elam is one 2019 cornerback that has shown significant interest in Notre Dame since being offered earlier this summer.

“That was pretty big,” Elam said about his offer from the Irish. “I’m very thankful for it. Notre Dame only recruits top players, so I thought that was a pretty big accomplishment.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Elam also holds early offers from Duke, Kentucky, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Wisconsin and others.

However, Elam said the history surrounding the program at Notre Dame makes the Irish stand out.

“I like that they’re an independent school so they can play anybody they want,” Elam explained. “I love the tradition with the gold helmets, and Coach Kelly seems like a very good coach.”

Elam has mentioned before that he’d like to get a closer look at Notre Dame, and said he’s going to try and make it up for a game this season.

The Irish are already facing big-time competition for the Florida talent, and more schools are sure to join the race as his prep career continues.

Luckily for Elam, he already knows of a few key factors he’s looking for in a school.

“Probably a school where I can play right away and one that fits me as a player,” Elam said. “Also good coaches and a good school.”

Elam obviously has a lot of options already, but said he’s not as focused on his recruiting as a lot of players his age tend to be.

“It’s pretty cool, but I haven’t really been focusing on getting better” Elam said. “I’ve been focusing on getting better. All these offers are just motivation to get better.”
