Notre Dame will host one of the top defensive linemen in Illinois on Sunday when Momence High School product Jason Bargy makes his first trip to South Bend.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the campus is like, what they have academic-wise, how the football program is and everything all the way around about Notre Dame,” Bargy explained to Blue & Gold. “I’m excited to go there because I’ve never been before.”

For the 6-foot-5, 231-pound Bargy, he is eager to learn more about the football side of Notre Dame and about the school in general. He isn’t sure of his interest level given his unfamiliarity with the program due to not visiting.

“I’m most interested in how the football program is,” Bargy said. “Right now, my main concerns are the football program and seeing what’s down there…I know they have the best facilities in the country.”

Bargy will be joined by his father who has his own list when it comes to what he is hoping to get out of the Irish visit.

“He wants to see how the program is run, what’s it like around the area surrounding the college, be around everything and how the academics are,” Bargy stated.

The sophomore heard from defensive line coach Mike Elston earlier this month and claims to have been offered during the phone call.

“Coach Elston said he really liked my film,” Bargy said. “Also, the recruiter did too that was on the phone and then he transferred me to Coach Elston. It was a school day…They offered me a scholarship. They just want me to down there in-person. Some of the other sophomores they offered will be there and they want all the ones they’ve offered down there to see us.”

While he is happy to have any offers under his belt, Bargy is going to work and train like he doesn’t.

“I still have to keep doing what I’m doing and keep that mindset,” Bargy said. “Stay on the mission to keep going like I have zero offers. Keep on the grind and keep working in school and keep my grades up and keep playing football. Just get better and better.”

Bargy described himself as a player who doesn’t give up on the field on either side of the ball. He plays running back and defensive end for Momence.

Bargy has been to Ohio State and wants to make it out to Michigan and Michigan State as well. He also lists Illinois as his other offer so far in his recruitment.
