Notre Dame suffered a big loss on the recruiting front Monday morning with Mansfield (Texas) High four-star defensive back Paulson Adebo opened up his recruitment.

This is a big blow to the 2017 class as the staff has been trying to add more defensive backs to Adebo, Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley Rivals250 ATH Isaiah Robertson and La Mirada (Calif.) High Rivals250 athlete Elijah Hicks. Now the class has only one cornerback commit in Hicks as Robertson is set to play safety.

Adebo also possess the ability to play wide receiver at the next level and did well during Under Armour All-America week in Orlando. He could have been a candidate to flip to offense if numbers dictate it.

He is the fifth de-commitment of the class and the third since late November following Indianapolis Cathedral four-star linebacker Pete Werner (Nov. 29) and Winter Park (Fla.) High three-star wide receiver Jordan Pouncey (Dec. 28). The class also has lost Rivals250 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive end Robert Beal and Beaver Falls (Pa.) High four-star defensive end Donovan Jeter.
