For the first time since 2009, two Notre Dame players are headed to the NFL's Pro Bowl.
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert and Dallas Cowboys right guard Zack Martin are both headed to Hawaii to represent their respective squads in the league's annual all-star game.
Martin has now reached the Pro Bowl in consecutive seasons to begin his professional career for the Cowboys, while Eifert is a first-time honoree.
Dallas is 4-10 this season with quarterback Tony Romo sidelined for most of the year but Martin continues to assert himself as one of the league's top linemen after a distinguished career at Notre Dame in which he started 52 consecutive games from 2010 to 2013.
Eifert has been plagued by injuries in recent weeks but has led the NFL in touchdown receptions for much of the season. He has registered 48 receptions for 564 yards and 12 touchdowns for the division-leading Bengals.
The 2009-12 Irish tight end missed all but one game in 2014 due to an elbow injury.
It marks the first time in six seasons that Notre Dame has had two alums in the Pro Bowl. Defensive end Justin Tuck and kicker John Carney both made the showcase that season.
The Pro Bowl will be played Jan. 31 on ESPN.
