What are your general thoughts about Wertz as a player? What he does well that you see on film?

Bossi: “I saw Wertz play in high school and have actually watched him play a few times for Santa Clara in college. He’s very fundamentally sound, has some toughness to him and plays a game that is based on skill and understanding where he needs to be on the floor.”

Evans: “I love Wertz and what he can do in the backcourt. He is a well-rounded combo guard who is not an explosive athlete but is a sound guard that can make shots, facilitate and defend. He is as sturdy as they come. Even better, he is a rock-solid kid that is going to buy into the entire dynamic of things that is winning.

“He picked Santa Clara over a handful of high-majors in high school, so it is not that he is just a late bloomer but rather someone that has continued to get better and should continue on a similar trend at Notre Dame.”

What kind of impact can he have at Notre Dame?

Bossi: “You never know for sure how a college transfer will handle the step up in competition from the mid major to high major level, but I like Wertz a lot and think he can be a solid piece for Notre Dame. His calling card has always been his ability to shoot from deep, plus he has good enough size for an ACC two guard.

“If he can continue to add to his game off the dribble and cut down turnovers like he did as a sophomore, he has the ability to be a starter and a reliable scorer for the Irish.”

Evans: “I am not sure if he is a potential lead playmaker, but he is someone that can fill a variety of holes in the backcourt. Having someone that you just throw onto the floor and makes the right play is hard to find which is why Wertz should have no issues fitting in at Notre Dame.

“He could be the Irish’s second or third leading scorer on a relatively successful team and receive up to over 26 minutes per game once he sees the floor again.”
