When Josh Adams signed with Notre Dame as part of the 2015 class, the Warrington, Pa. native was a three-star recruit and the overlooked back in the class. Three years later, Adams will finish his career as one of the most prolific backs in Notre Dame history.
After rushing for 3,198 career yards, Adams has declared his intention to bypass his senior season at Notre Dame and enter the 2018 NFL Draft.
Adams set a Notre Dame record for rushing yards as a freshman, racking up 835 yards (7.2 per carry) during the 2015 season. During that campaign Adams racked up another freshman record when he rushed for 168 yards in a Nov. 28 loss to Stanford.
The 6-2 running back led the Irish with 933 yards (5.9 per rush) in 2016, but this past season was his true breakout. Adams rushed for 161 yards and a pair of scores in Notre Dame's 49-16 season-opening victory over Temple. Adams went on to rush for at least 118 yards in five of the next seven games. He went over 100 yards just once in the final five games of the season.
Adams finished the 2017 season with 1,430 yards (6.9 per rush), which ranked him 14th nationally. He was just eight yards shy of passing the singles-season rushing record at Notre Dame, which was set by Vagas Ferguson back in 1979.
He will finish his career with his name all over the all-time rushing rankings at Notre Dame. His 15 career games with at least 100 rushing yards is tied for third all-time at Notre Dame. Adams career rushing yards ranks him fifth all-time at Notre Dame, trailing Autry Denson, Allen Pinkett, Ferguson and Darius Walker.
Adams finished his career averaging 6.7 yards per rushing attempt, which ranks him 3rd all-time at Notre Dame, trailing just Reggie Books (1989-92) and Don Miller (1922-24).
